if I knew you once, now i know you less.
i have been thinking a lot about something i heard sunday... i went to see donald miller speak. for those of you who may not know him, i would say he is most "famous" for the book he wrote, blue like jazz. he had some really good things to say. he spoke about writing our own stories. so many of us are waiting around for something we deem perfect. we are waiting for God to sort of make all these utopian- like circumstances for us to do anything. any character in a story has a conflict and overcomes that conflict. i guess sometimes we don't think we are just any character. he used adam as an example. adam was in the garden of eden aka paradise, but he had a conflict, he was lonely. God did not immediately do something about that- he asked adam to name the animals. adam had to feel the loneliness, the conflict. then God makes eve- loneliness solved. our life is a series of stories, where we are always going to have conflict and where God always restores. we have let God restore. God has to restore in his way, not ours. we need to see that restoration. its easy to keep waiting - waiting for perfect conditions, perfect people... but i think its time to open our eyes to what God may have already restored, we just never noticed it.
